Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#3 Women's Lacrosse Bests SCSU Owls, 16-3

New Haven, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State Owls were held scoreless through the second half of play as no. 3 Adelphi women's lacrosse cruised to a 16-3 victory Tuesday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.

Allison Stackpole and Chelsea Abreu led the team with four goals apiece as the latter was responsible for six draw controls and one caused turnover.

The Panthers (9-1, 6-0 NE10) offense had a fast start taking a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. The Owls responded well outscoring Adelphi 2-1, with goals from Samantha Cozzolino and Karlie Rowe which cut the home team deficit to 3-2. Adelphi's offense proved to be too much for the home team as they outscored Southern 6-1 through the rest of the first half to take a 9-3 lead.

SCSU's final tally of the contest came at the 10:15 mark in the opening frame, but was quickly answered with back-to-back strikes from Lena Riportella, who had helpers from Christina McCabe and Molly Fetherston

Stackpole once more got things going for the Brown and Gold in the second half, after shots from either side fell off the mark. Abreu's two goals to polish off the hat trick turned the clock to running time with under 13 minutes left to play. Kole Pollock also recorded a hat trick in the win, a bounce back victory for the third-ranked Panthers who dropped a non-league contest to LIU Post on Saturday.

Adelphi held an advantage in nearly every category, but only saw one more draw control win in the end. The Panthers also posted a perfect performance in clears, going 23-23 in the gme.

With her 18 saves despite the loss, Laura Morton set a season-high for saves this year. The last time she had 18 saves was also against Adelphi on March 29, 2017.

Women's lacrosse returns home on Saturday, April 6 for an NE10 meeting with Merrimack College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
