Cuccio Sets Runs Scored Mark, Muller Hurls No-Hitter in Milestone Softball Sweep of Saint Rose

Albany, N.Y. - It was a momentous day for the Adelphi University softball team in more ways than one at the College of Saint Rose on Saturday.

The Panthers (20-15, 12-4 NE10) swept the Golden Knights in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader, 7-0 and 2-0, with Nicoletta Cuccio and Ally Muller etching themselves in the school and personal record books along the way.

Muller hurled her first career seven-inning no-hitter in game one, striking out eight, while Cuccio scored four runs across the two games to set the new Adelphi career record in the category.

The senior, who scored herself with a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning of game two to stand alone at the top of the record books, has now crossed the plate 162 times in her career and passed former teammate Brenna Martini ('18)'s all-time mark of 161.

Nicole Mengel nearly matched Muller's effort in game two herself, as she went 5.2 no-hit innings before surrendering a two-out single to Ryane Brush in the nightcap.

Despite notching just three hits with the bats in game one, Adelphi took advantage of 10 walks across seven innings by the Golden Knights (11-17, 5-9 NE10) and scored a combined five runs on two wild pitches, an error and a bases-loaded free pass.

Cuccio and Emily Turney were issued a combined six of the Panthers' walks in the opener, with the latter drawing the one with the bases jammed that gave her an RBI in the second, while Lauren Sandelier notched the visitors' lone RBI single of the game.

The Panthers close out a three-game set against the Golden Knights on Sunday. First pitch of the single game is set for 11 a.m.
