Miami Shores, Fla. - Michael Cattani's walk-off single to bring in
Jonathan Iadevaia from third was the final play the Adelphi University baseball team needed to secure its first win in Florida against Felician on Saturday, 3-2.
With Iadevaia pinch-running for a walked
Brandon Morse in the bottom of the ninth, Cattani stepped up to the plate pinch hitting for Time Feliz, with his man on third. A base hit up the middle was enough to bring Iadevaia home and secure the walk-off victory in a game in which Adelphi (3-1) led 2-0, but saw the Golden Falcons score a run in the sixth and seventh innings to tie.
Thomas Colombo,
Lawrence Cicileo, and
Brandon Morse finished the day with a pair of hits each, while Cattani,
Tim O'Connor and
Jack Ryan contributed one hit as well.
Ed Baram started on the hill for Adelphi, hurling six complete innings and fanning 10 batters along the way before
Tom Ambrosino was the beneficiary of the walk-off, securing his first win of the season thanks to a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts.
Adelphi got on the board early off an RBI single from Morse which brought home Colombo from second base in the first, and later, Cicileo gave the Panthers a 2-0 edge with a solo home run to left field in the third inning.
However, two innings later, the Golden Falcons (3-9) evened the score 2-2 beginning with a double and an RBI single in the sixth for its first runs of the game. In the next inning, a single to the shortstop drove in Felician's second run of the game.
On Sunday, the Brown and Gold will compete against local opponent Molloy College on the campus of Barry University once again. The first pitch is schedule for 12 p.m.
