Garden City, N.Y. - Despite a dramatic doubles victory for
Luke Attride-Stirling and
David Robres de Veciana, the Adelphi University men's tennis team was swept by the visiting Le Moyne College Dolphins on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action.
The sophomore and junior prevailed in a winner-take-all tiebreak set at No.2 doubles, 7-6(5), to claim Adelphi's (0-7, 0-3 NE10) match victory on the afternoon, but the Dolphins (7-4, 2-0 NE10) nonetheless claimed the doubles point behind wins at the other two flights.
In singles, both Attride-Stirling and
Volodymyr Petrushevskyi both battled to three-set defeats at their respective flights.
Attride-Stirling took a hard-fought first set from Philip Blythe, but ultimately was worn down by the two-time All-Conference performer, 4-6, 6-0, 6-0.
After losing the first set despite valiantly battling from a 4-0 deficit, Petrushevskyi rallied to force a decider by winning a tight second set in a tiebreak, but fell to Christian Erickson in an overall match tiebreak.
Men's tennis will next pursue its first win of the season on the road at Saint Michael's College on April 6, in a 12 p.m. match.
