Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Overcomes Early Deficit to Top Pace, 14-6

Pleasantville, N.Y. - The #2 Adelphi University women's lacrosse program battled back from a 5-1 deficit Wednesday evening, to remain perfect this season with a 14-6 win at Pace University.

The Panthers, (8-0, 5-0) who were down by four goals after nearly 25 minutes of action, saw four consecutive goals from Kole Pollock who brought the game back to even with just over a minute remaining in the first half. Lena Riportella notched her first tally of the evening with five seconds to spare, which ultimately gave the visitors a lead they would never relinquish.

Pace's netminder, Sienna Masullo, gathered four saves before Pollock found the back of the net for the first time, which broke the silence for Adelphi at the 11:06 mark. The home team offense managed a convincing lead after the first 25 minutes, but the Panther attack was able to find some momentum which they swung into the second frame.

The first three goals of the second half were scored by Adelphi, as Chelsea Abreu kicked things off followed by tallies from Riportella and Pollock. The Setters lone goal of the half came from Juliana Marcolini, who finished with a team-high four goals in the loss. After coming within three, Pace gave up the next five goals to four different goal scorers, including two more for Pollock which marks a new career-high in goals and points as she completed the NE10 meeting with nine.

Alison Johnson, who has not been held to one or less points since the last game of 2018, finished with one assist in the victory, but was responsible for three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Nicki Stanco also caused three of Pace's 19 turnovers as Abreu and Christina Ferrara gobbled up six draw controls apiece.

The women's team is back in action when they host LIU Post on Saturday, March 30 in what is scheduled as the final regular season meeting between the two programs, following the announcement of the merge with LIU Brooklyn. The alumna from both teams will match up at 11:00 a.m. as the current teams 'Play for a Cause' with opening draw set for 1:00 p.m. Admission to the game is set at a suggested donation of $10, with all proceeds benefiting Mitochondrial Research and more specifically the non-profit organization known as Lexi's Mighto Fight.
