Garden City, N.Y. - The first rematch of last season's Northeast-10 Championship game went the way of the Adelphi University softball team on Tuesday afternoon.
Behind another complete game, and sixth straight victory for,
Ally Muller in the circle, the Panthers topped the Pace University Setters, 3-1, on Janet L. Ficke Field.
The sophomore matched a career-high in strikeouts with 10 in the performance, improving her record to 7-5 on the season with the win.Â
A one-out single from
Lauren Sandelier drove home
Emily Whitman in the first, after the freshman led off with a double, to give Adelphi a lead it never relinquished early on.
The Panthers (10-12, 4-1 NE10) doubled their run total an inning later off of Whitman's bat, as she lofted a sacrifice fly to center field that scored
Lauren O'Neill, and added their third run on a Setter error in the fifth.Â
That proved to be more than enough offense for Muller, who allowed a leadoff single to Arielle Acosta but did not allow another hit until the seventh.
The sophomore walked five in her outing, but ultimately stranded the bases full of Setters twice - in the first inning and in the final inning, part of eight runners that Pace (5-6, 2-3 NE10) left on base against her overall.Â
The Panthers and Setters continue their home-and-home series on Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader in Pleasantville, N.Y. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.Â
