Garden City, N.Y. - For the second time in three days, the second-ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse program has proved victorious, after taking a 16-4 decision from nineteenth-ranked Assumption College Friday evening under the lights at Motamed Field.
After an early two-all contest just eight minutes into the game, the Panthers (7-0, 4-0 NE10) seven unanswered goals, largely in part with two goals apiece from
Alison Johnson and
Christina Ferrara. At the 8:21 mark the home team had pushed out to a comfortable 9-2 advantage, however the Greyhounds (5-2, 2-2 NE10) snuck in one more, past netminder
Emma Lemanski to trail by six at halftime. Lemanksi finished in goal with three saves after allowing just one more goal in the second frame.
A draw control win for
Chelsea Abreu - one of her nine in the win - started off the second half and
Allison Stackpole netted her first of the contest less than two minutes in. Defensively, the home team commanded the caused turnover category, with a combined 23 to Assumption's nine. Abreu and
Alexandra Beebe were each responsible for four, which included disruptions around the eight meter and on a few clear attempts.
Lena Riportella led the offense with four goals on six shots as
Kole Pollock and
Christina Ferrara each chipped in three. Riportella's hat trick tally came midway through the second off a pass from
Molly Fetherston as she recorded another nearly two minutes later to secure running clock. Kyra Goucher took over in goal for the Greyhounds late in the first half and picked up a number of saves down the stretch of the contest.
Christina McCabe scored the final strike of the Friday evening conference tilt to send Adelphi to their seventh consecutive victory in 2019.
Adelphi will trek over the bridge on Wednesday, March 27 for their next opponent, as they take on Pace University in Pleasantville, NY. Opening draw is set for 6:00 p.m. and all action can be view live on NE10 NOW.
