Early Success Continues for Baseball with 9-3 NYIT Win

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team stayed perfect at home in the early season with a 9-3 win over NYIT on Wednesday afternoon.

The Panthers (8-4) saw seven batters tally hits with Brett Malm and Thomas Colombo leading the way at 3-for-5 and 3-for-4, in addition to two RBIs each.

Colombo and Lawrence Cicileo both went deep in the contest, with Cicileo homering for the second straight game.

Extending his hitting streak to 12 games, Morse led off the game for the Panthers with a single to right. With Malm next in the lineup, the senior launched a homer to center field to put two on the board for Adelphi. Two innings later, an almost identical play occurred, except the homer was off the bat of Colombo to drive home Morse for a 4-0 Adelphi lead.

The Bears (8-4) put two runs on the board in the fourth off an RBI double to right field, putting the visitors within two. They later tallied one more run in the seventh on an RBI single, but never trailed by less than two for the game.

The hosts added the final four runs across the sixth and eighth innings. Following a base hit from Terwilliger in the sixth, an error on the NYIT shortstop brought him home from third in the next at bat. After another miscue got Tim Feliz on base, Kevin Krippel roped an RBI single for the Panthers seventh run.

In the eighth inning, Malm's double to center put him and Morse in scoring position for Cicileo to record two more RBIs.

Daniel Taggart appeared in his first start of the season, pitching a total of 3.2 innings. Max Steele came out of the bullpen for Taggart, throwing 2.1 innings, and earning his first win of the season.

Tom Ambrosino closed the game for the Panthers, fanning three batters, including the last two in the ninth.

The Brown and Gold will stay home over the weekend as they face off with Merrimack College in a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game will begin at 12 p.m.
