Baseball Scores Season's First Shutout vs. Merrimack, 4-0

Boynton Beach, Fla. - In its second attempt against Merrimack College in the Sunshine State, the Adelphi University baseball team shut out the Warriors, 4-0 on Friday afternoon.

Adelphi (6-3) earned its first shutout of the season behind the arm of senior pitcher Ed Baram, who threw a full seven innings of three-hit ball before Seth Sypniak and Tom Ambrosino came out of the bullpen to relieve the starter and close the shutout on the mound.

Brandon Morse, Lawrence Cicileo and Michael Cattani recorded a pair of hits each, while Dominic Paolo, Brett Malm, Lucas Terwilliger and Tim Feliz added one hit to the stat line.

Adelphi got on the board early, scoring its first run of the game in the opening inning. Morse got on base with a single up the middle, and eventually reached home on an RBI single from Feliz.

After four scoreless innings, a throwing error by pitcher Vin Zappulla allowed Paolo to reach second and score Morse and Feliz to make the score 3-0. Two batters later, an RBI single credited to Malm gave Adelphi its final run of the game.

The Brown and Gold will play the final game of its Florida slate tomorrow against another Northeast-10 opponent, Southern New Hampshire University. The first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Santa Luces complex.
