Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team earned its biggest win of the season on Wednesday night, knocking off 23rd-ranked Le Moyne College by double figures inside the Center for Recreation and Sports, 72-60.
The Panthers (10-12, 7-8 NE10), who entered the night having lost six of their last seven games, led wire-to-wire in their first victory over a nationally-ranked program in over two years, and put an end to the Dolphins' (18-3, 12-3 NE10) program-best 14-game winning streak in the process.
Adelphi's last win over a team ranked in the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association's (WBCA) Division II Top 25 came on Jan. 11, 2017, in which the then 25th-ranked Panthers upended then-No.15 Bentley, 62-60.
The Brown and Gold were anchored by an offensive effort from all sides, as
Leonie Edringer went 10-for-16 from the floor for a game-high 20 points, and added eight rebounds and two blocks.
Jess Camarda dropped in a season-high 19 points, her second time scoring in double figures this season and first since Jan. 5, with 19 points in 25 minutes of action.
On the defensive end,
Emily Miccile hauled in a career-best 14 rebounds, and also added 10 points for her third double-double of the season, while
Katie Murphy flirted with one of her own thanks to a career-best 10 assists and nine points.
Back-to-back baskets from Edringer in the first 1:42 of the contest set the tone for the Panthers on the night, as they scored 10 of the first 14 points of the game overall.
Adelphi's lead grew to as much as 10 in the second quarter on three occasions, including at halftime, and the Brown and Gold never led by less than nine for the rest of the second half.
Adelphi limited the Dolphins to their fourth-lowest scoring output of the season, and third-lowest shooting percentage over the course of the contest. The home defense also limited Le Moyne point guard McKayla Roberts, the league's fifth-leading scorer and leading three-point threat at nearly 45 percent per game, to just eight points of 3-for-13 shooting from the floor.
Le Moyne was led offensively by Erin Fouracre, who came in for 20 points off the bench after starter Cameron Tooley went down with a knee injury just two minutes into the contest, while Corrine Poitevien hauled in a double-double with 14 rebounds and 12 points.
Adelphi will host the University of New Haven next up on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., prior to which and during, the Panthers will honor their alumni on the program's first edition of Kerry Hamill ('00) Alumni Day, named in honor of the late program alumna who passed away last year.
The alumni in attendance are invited to attend a pregame brunch, and will be recognized at halftime of the game. In addition, the first 100 attendees to the game overall will receive a free Adelphi magnet.
