Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi men's basketball saw their five-game win streak snapped when strong second-half offense from Le Moyne College resulted in a 77-63 decision in favor of the Dolphins Wednesday evening, inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
Even with four players in double-figures, the Panthers (15-8, 9-6 NE10) could not hold off the 54 percent shooting of their divisional opponent, as they held the disadvantage in rebounding 32-22. Ronnie Silva was 6-11 from the field and finished with a team-best 15 points. It was Ryan Roland's 22 points courtesy of 7-10 shooting from the field and perfect performance at the free throw line that led the Dolphins (13-7, 10-5 NE10) to their fifth consecutive win.
After finding themselves trailing by nine in the early going, Conor McGuiness knocked down a three-pointer that sparked a 20-1 run over the following nine minutes of work to swing momentum in favor of the Panthers.
Kobi Nwandu of Le Moyne converted a three-point play to bring the contest within two with less than four to play in the first but contributions from Utley and a step-back trey from Silva at the last second kept the deficit at eight.
Silva drained the last shot for the home team from the field at 4:03 as he Dolphins held the hosts scoreless for the remaining 2:27 of regulation, while adding a 7-8 mark at the free throw line in the same time.
An 11-1 run from the Dolphins allowed them to regain the lead in the second frame, with four points from their leading scorer in Roland. Coming out of a timeout, he notched six quick points in under a minute to push their advantage out to seven. Dejavaugh Utley notched the final tallies for Adelphi at the 2:43 mark from the charity stripe, but no other baskets fell for the home team as Le Moyne extended their lead and ultimately closed the door on a 77-63 victory.
The team returns to their home court for another divisional matchup featuring the Chargers of New Haven. The men will tip-off at approximately 3:30 p.m.
