Garden City, N.Y. - Behind a season-high-tying 25-point afternoon from
Ronnie Silva, the Adelphi University men's basketball team defeated Northeast-10 Conference rival American International College, 75-54, at the Center for Recreation and Sport on Saturday.
Silva, who scored 15 of his 25 points in the first half, shot 8-of-19 from the field and gave out seven assists in the effort.
Austin Beech picked up his second 20-point game of the season, with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
The Panthers (6-3, 2-1 NE10) pulled away from this one late in the first half.
Trailing 12-10 with just over seven minutes left before halftime, Adelphi went on a 25-6 outburst to grab a commanding 35-18 lead with 1:51 left.
Dwaine Williams sparked the run with back-to-back three-pointers. Silva accounted for 11 points in the stretch, including a pair of threes. Beech closed it out with a three-pointer of his own.
The Brown and Gold shot a sparkling 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from deep in the opening 20 minutes, en route to bringing a 37-21 advantage into the locker room.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets (4-5, 1-2 NE10) were unable to break into the Panthers' double-digit lead. Adelphi widened the gap to as many as 26 points, sealing the victory to cap off a three-game homestand.
Jared Rivers added nine points in the win, while
Chris Coalmon had seven points and seven rebounds.
Spencer Foley and Williams finished with six points apiece.
