Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Hoops Hands #23 Pace First Loss in 2019, 67-53

Pleasantville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team entered the Goldstein Fitness Center Tuesday evening to an undefeated Pace University team, but outlasted the Setters to hold on to a 67-53 decision, handing the home team their first loss of the season.

Jared Rivers led the Panthers (7-3, 3-1 NE10) with a game-high 22 points courtesy of 8-of-14 shooting from the field, and was followed by Ronnie Silva who accounted for 20. The duo combined for 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals and were joined by Austin Beech in double-figure scoring as he added 11.

The Brown and Gold capitalized on 16 Pace turnovers throughout the contest, earning 20 points off the miscues to hold a 17-point advantage in that category.

Beech got the scoring going for Adelphi with a three-pointer out of the gate and the visiting team managed to work their way out to a double-digit lead with 12:40 left on the clock courtesy of a Rivers bucket. In a stretch spanning over 10 minutes, the Panthers rattled off a 19-3 run, which included three-pointers from Silva and Andrew Delaney, which saw the visiting team up by 25 with 1:31 remaining in the opening half.

Pace's Brandon Jacobs was responsible for 14 points of his 15 points in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the early deficit despite outscoring the Panthers 38-29 in the frame.

The home team scored 12 unanswered points after the halftime break keeping Adelphi quiet until Beech drained a tre with 16:33 remaining in regulation. The Setters cut into the Panther lead and managed to come as close as six, but it was Rivers and Silva that staved off the comeback, combining for 14 points in the final seven minutes of action.

Adelphi will take a break from league action and head to Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, Dec. 14 for a 4:00 p.m. tilt.
