Camarda, Edringer Lead Women's Basketball to Eighth-Straight Win

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team pushed its win streak to eight Wednesday night, as it defeated Northeast-10 Conference opponent Le Moyne College, 77-63, at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

Seniors Leonie Edringer and Jess Camarda led Adelphi (8-0, 2-0 NE10) in scoring, pouring in 24 and 23 points, respectively.

Camarda's night came with season-highs in both points and made three-pointers, netting four of her eight attempts. She also shot a sizzling 7-of-13 from the field and made 5-of-5 tries at the stripe.

The Panthers rallied from an early 12-4 deficit, using an 11-3 first-quarter run to pull even at 15-all, sparked by an Emma Cuccurullo three from the wing. Julia Strachan then accounted for the next eight Adelphi points. including a game-tying jumper at the 1:42 mark.

In the second quarter, the Panthers found themselves trailing 26-25, until Adelphi closed out the half on a 10-2 burst to take a 35-28 lead into the locker room. Camarda nailed a three with 2:17 left to put the Brown and Gold ahead for good. She scored the first eight points of the run.

Adelphi had another outstanding third quarter, outscoring Le Moyne (4-4, 1-2 NE10) by an overwhelming 25-12 count. That included a 16-4 stretch to open up a 19-point advantage (53-34) with 4:49 remaining. The Panthers, who shot a stellar 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from the field in the period, would lead by 20 points at the conclusion of the quarter.

The Dolphins showed fight though in the fourth quarter and made it an eight-point game (69-60) at the 56-second mark, but Adelphi made a near-perfect 9-of-10 foul shots down the stretch to seal the victory.

Strachan finished with a season-high-tying 14 points in 24 minutes off the bench. Cuccurullo added six points, three rebounds and two assists. Katie Murphy chipped in five points and nine assists, while Emily Miccile had four points and seven rebounds.

The Brown and Gold return to action Saturday (Dec. 7), when they take on NE10 rival American International College at the Center for Recreation and Sport at 1:30 p.m.
