Nine is Fine: Women's Basketball Cruises to 75-51 Win Over AIC

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team extended its win streak to nine games Saturday afternoon, after taking down Northeast-10 Conference foe American International College, 75-51, at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

Julia Strachan led all scorers with a career-high 22 points, knocking down six triples, while all of Jess Camarda's 15 points came from behind the arc. The duo accounted for 11 of the team's 12 three-pointers. Junior point guard Katie Murphy did her part with 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the floor. Overall, the Brown and Gold had scoring contributions from eight different players.

The Panthers (9-0, 3-0 NE10) got out to a slow start, only scoring 10 points in the opening 10 minutes of action, with just four field goals on seven attempts. However, their counterparts struggled as well, shooting just 17.1 percent from the floor and turning the ball over five times, which resulted in an output of just six points.

However, the Brown and Gold found their stroke in the second, pouring in 31 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the field, which included an impressive 7-of-9 performance from deep. In the 10-minute span, Camarda knocked down four triples, while Strachan added three of her own. Meanwhile, the visitors were still unable to find their stroke. American International was held scoreless for the first 4:13, until a step-back three-pointer from Kayla Robinson broke the silence.

Adelphi used an 18-5 run over the final minutes of the quarter to head into halftime with a comfortable 41-14 upper hand.

The Panthers did not let up in the final two quarters of action, despite the visitors using a 22-17 advantage in bench points alone to climb out of their deficit. The Yellow Jackets' leading scorer Kayla Robinson was held without a basket throughout the final 10 minutes of play. pushed their lead to at-most 31 in the frame.

Adelphi women's basketball returns to action on Tuesday, December 10, when they travel to take on Pace University in Pleasantville. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
