Garden City, N.Y. - Despite a tightly contested first half, in which the Adelphi University men's basketball team held an eight-point advantage at half, the Panthers suffered an 88-76 defeat to Le Moyne College Wednesday evening, inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.Â
The Dolphins (5-4, 3-0 NE10) used 50 percent shooting from three-point land in the second frame to pull away with the eventual win, as leading scorer Malik Garner notched 19 of his 24 points in the second half alone. In the loss,
Spencer Foley put up a career-best 17 points with the help of perfect shooting from beyond the arc as three other Panthers reached double-figure scoring.
Chris Coalmon,
Austin Beech and
Ronnie Silva accounted for 19, 13 and 12 points, respectively and
Andrew Delaney made his collegiate debut in an Adelphi uniform.Â
Adelphi (5-3, 1-1 NE10) trailed for majority of the opening half in which Le Moyne led by at-most six points, but at the 7:28 mark,
Chris Coalmon drained a tre to swing momentum in favor of the home team. The Brown and Gold recorded two more three pointers to kick start a 14-3 stretch which saw the hosts leading by eight at halftime.Â
The visitors wasted no time regaining the lead as they came out of the locker room scoring nine unanswered points, but Foley and a pair of threes kept the game within reach. At 55-all, it was once more Le Moyne that went on a scoring spree that had them ahead of the Panthers by double-digits.Â
With 3:24 remaining, the Dolphins posted their largest lead of the contest at 20, after forcing the home team to commit seven turnovers in the second half, and keep them to a dismal 4-17 shooting from three-point range.
Dwaine Williams and
Zachary Feingold were responsible for the final two three-pointers of the contest, but the deficit was too great to overcome as they dropped an 88-76 decision.Â
Adelphi will be back in action at home on Saturday, Dec. 7 when they host American International College at 3:30 p.m. The first 50 fans at Saturday's contest will receive an Adelphi branded baseball cap, courtesy of the Center for Student Involvement.Â
