Philadelphia, Pa. - In a game where Adelphi men's basketball was on pace to score 100 points, the Panthers just missed the century mark as they took a 89-61 decision from the hosting Chestnut Hill Griffins Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Panthers (8-3) who extended their win streak to three with the victory, saw three starters and one player off the bench reach double-digit marks in scoring, led by
Spencer Foley. Foley, who was 5-7 from three point range, put up a new career-mark in points, scoring 19 for the game and was followed by
Ronnie Silva,
Jared Rivers, and
Dwaine Williams with 16, 16, and 13 points, respectively.
Adelphi scored eight points before Chestnut Hill got on the board and then proceeded to drain five consecutive three-pointers to jump out to a 23-6 lead at the 14:39 mark in the opening frame. A 12-3 run in favor of the home team allowed them to get within 11 of their opponents, however
Austin Beech sparked an 11-0 nothing run that put the Panthers back ahead by 20 with 2:04 left.
Foley and Silva were both responsible for double-digit scoring in the first 20 minutes, and the Brown and Gold held a 21-14 advantage in rebounds and was shooting 53 percent from the field.
The visiting team scored 12 points to open the second half before the Griffins broke the silence at 16:07, but Adelphi continued to land shots, especially from beyond the arc.
Andrew Delaney knocked down a three-pointer at 10:09 to put the Panthers ahead by 40, their largest advantage of the contest. Chestnut Hill put together an 11-3 run down the stretch, but another tre from
Owen Soontjens was the last sealed the deal to give Adelphi their eighth win of the season.
Dave Duke and the men's basketball team will return to the Center for Recreation and Sports on Wednesday, Dec. 18 when they host Molloy College at 7:30 p.m.
