Pleasantville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team cruised to a season-opening 78-62 victory against New York Tech in its 2019-20 season opener at the ECC/NE10 Challenge Saturday at Pace's Goldstein Fitness Center in Pleasantville.
The Panthers (1-0) shot exceptionally well throughout the contest, shooting 44.2 percent (23-of-52) from the field and 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from downtown.Â
Four players scored in double figures for Adelphi, led by
Leonie Edringer's double-double performance of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Fallyn Stephens hit three triples, en route to a 15-point night.
Julia Strachan provided 14 points off the bench.
Jess Camarda had 13 points.
Katie Murphy ran the point and dished out 10 assists, to go along with six points.
The Panthers broke the game open early, using a 10-0 first-quarter run to jump out to an 18-6 advantage. Strachan and
Phyness Baldwin each drilled a three in the burst.
Adelphi would lead by double digits (38-26) at the intermission and put the contest out of reach in the second half. The Panthers outscored the Bears (0-1) by an overwhelming 21-10 count in the third quarter to widen the gap to 59-36.
The Brown and Gold forced NYIT into 17 turnovers on the night and converted 16 points off those miscues. Adelphi also got nearly one-third of its scoring output (25 points) from its bench players.
