Women's Basketball Sets Records in 120-57 Rout of Mercy

Pleasantville, N.Y. - It was a night of records Sunday for the Adelphi University women's basketball team, which routed Mercy College by a 120-57 final in the ECC/NE10 Challenge at Pace's Goldstein Fitness Center in Pleasantville.

The Panthers (2-0) broke the school's all-time single-game record for points, while Fallyn Stephens nailed eight threes to set a new single-game mark, shattering the previous record of seven made three-pointers by Tara Flynn on Feb. 28, 2016.

It was Adelphi's largest margin of victory since 2013, when the Brown and Gold won by the current record of 66 points against Concordia. That game also saw the Panthers put up the previous single-game record of 112 points.

Additionally, Adelphi reached the century mark for the first time since Dec. 11, 2014, when they won 103-89 against Goldey-Beacom, and ended a near 10-year drought (Feb. 25, 2009) of scoring 100 or more points in a road game.

The Panthers again impressed with their shooting. Adelphi shot a sizzling 49.4 percent (42-of-85) from the field, 47.4 percent (18-of-38) from downtown and 81.8 percent (18-of-22) from the free-throw line.

In her record-setting performance, Stephens made 8-of-14 attempts from deep, en route to a career-high 26-point night. Leonie Edringer got her second double-double in as many games with 19 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with four blocks.

Katie Murphy and Aneisha Lyons scored 13 points apiece. Lyons grabbed nine rebounds, as well. Phyness Baldwin added 11 points and seven assists off the bench. Emma Cuccurullo collected 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

On defense, the Panthers held the Mavericks (0-2) to just 31.3 percent shooting (21-of-67) from the field and 25.0 percent (5-of-20) from beyond the arc. Additionally, Adelphi forced Mercy into 29 turnovers, while only committing nine of its own.

Head Coach Missy Traversi and the Panthers return to action Wednesday (Nov. 13), when they travel to Orangeburg for a 6:30 p.m. opening tip at non-conference foe Dominican College.
