Garden City, N.Y. - On Saturday, the Adelphi University men's basketball team used a late second-half run to earn an 80-66 win over Georgian Court University on Day 2 of the Conference Challenge at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City.
Trailing 55-51 with just over 11 minutes left in the second half, the Panthers (2-0) used an 18-2 run over a seven-minute stretch to rally to a 69-57 lead and never looked back from there.
Dwaine Williams, who buried four threes on the night, knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the streak.
Jared Rivers added a trifecta, as well. Adelphi shot a blistering 43.8 percent (7-for-16) from deep in the final 20 minutes of play.
In the first half, Adelphi opened up as much as a 15-point lead, but Georgian Court (0-2) fought back and closed the gap to as few as two possessions (34-28) with 2:18 left. The hosts eventually brought a 40-32 advantage into the intermission.
Though the Panthers led for over 33 minutes in the contest, the Lions opened the second half on a 15-5 run to go in front 47-45. Georgian Court would build a four-point lead at 55-51, until Adelphi started a comeback of its own that put the game away.
Five players scored in double figures for the Brown and Gold, led by
Jared Rivers' 18-point night. He shot 6-of-11 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Williams and Koulamallah finished with 12 points apiece off the bench. Koulamallah also grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double.
Austin Beech totaled 10 points and nine rebounds, while
Chris Coalmon chipped in 10 points, five assists and three rebounds.
Head Coach
