Garden City, N.Y. - After earning votes in the WBCA Division II Top 25 Poll on Tuesday, the Adelphi University women's basketball team kept rolling with a 93-56 rout of Georgian Court University in non-conference action at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City.
For the fifth time in six games this year, the Panthers (6-0) led by double digits after the first quarter. Adelphi started the contest on a 14-4 run and led 26-16 through 10 minutes of play.
Jess Camarda accounted for the game's first bucket with a three and
Emily Miccile capped off the burst with a pair of makes, including a three-pointer.
Though the Lions (1-3) closed the gap to a six-point deficit in the second quarter, the Panthers outscored their opposition 23-10 over the final 5:31 of the half to bring a commanding 51-32 lead into the intermission.
The Brown and Gold made four consecutive shots down the stretch, bookended by threes from Miccile and
Fallyn Stephens, who knocked down another triple as time expired.
In the second half, Georgian Court was unable to break into Adelphi's double-digit lead, as the difference grew to as many as 37 points in the fourth quarter.
Four players finished in double figures on the evening for the Panthers.
Katie Murphy led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting and added a game-high seven assists. Stephens drilled 6-of-9 three-pointers for an 18-point night. Miccile notched her fourth career double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, to go along with three steals.
Leonie Edringer racked up 12 points, six rebounds, four steals and three blocks.
Phyness Baldwin had a line of seven points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals in 16 minutes off the bench.
Adelphi capitalized on Georgian Court's 30 turnovers, turning it into 36 points. The Panthers also outscored the Lions 22-4 on second-chance opportunities and 21-13 on the fast break.
