Volleyball Stopped at Unbeaten Bentley

Waltham, Mass. - The Adelphi University volleyball program dropped its fifth straight contest Friday night at the Dana Center, falling in three sets to Bentley University, who remains unbeaten in Northeast-10 Conference action.

The Falcons (21-4, 10-0 NE10), remained unbeaten in league action after winning its 16th straight contest this season against the Panthers (10-9, 3-5 NE10).  Cara McKenzie was the team-leader in kills Friday evening, with eight, as both Sara Bisbe and Sara Mandreja each chipped in seven. Even though the visitors held an advantage in blocks and service aces (5-3), the Falcons used strong offense to secure a victory.

Adelphi got off to a slow start in the opening set, trailing by four after the first 14 points of action. A service ace from Katarina Warburton brought the visitors within two at 22-20, however the home team closed out the first frame with a 4-2 run to jump out to a lead overall in the contest. The second set saw another advantage taken from the hosts until Mandreja recorded a kill that sparked a 3-0 run to come within one.

The teams experienced ties at 11 and 13, but the home team won six of the final eight points to move to 2-0 in the match.

Adelphi's only leads of the night came in the third set, but Bentley closed with a 14-6 run. That included five unanswered points that turned a 13-11 deficit into a 16-13 advantage.

Bentley finished with 13 more kills than the visiting Panthers, 43-30, and limited Adelphi to a .080 hitting percentage. It was the tenth time this season a Falcon opponent was held under .100.

Adelphi experiences a quick turnaround and will play at Stonehill College on Saturday, November 2. Opening serve is set for 1:00 p.m. inside Merkert Gymnasium.
