Women's Soccer Draws to Scoreless Tie at Assumption

Worcester, Mass. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team wrapped up its 2019 Northeast-10 Conference regular-season slate Saturday with a 0-0 draw at Assumption College at Multi-Sport Stadium in Worcester.

The Panthers (9-4-2, 8-3-2 NE10) had their share of opportunities in the first half, but were unable to break through against Assumption senior keeper Alexis Nason.

Nason stopped all five shots on target that she faced from the Adelphi attack in the first 45 minutes, as the two teams went into halftime in a scoreless deadlock.

That trend continued in the second half and again in the two overtime periods.

In the final seconds of regulation, Alexsis Weiser nearly found the short side for the game-winner, but her attempt missed just wide of the frame from inside the 18-yard box.

Then, in the final seconds of the first overtime, Maialen Herreros headed a corner kick just wide of the far post, sending the contest to double overtime.

The Panthers nearly won it again in the second overtime period, when Taylor Iacono headed a shot off the crossbar with two minutes left.

Adelphi sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Hofmeier then thwarted a breakaway for the Greyhounds (7-4-4, 4-4-4 NE10), as the game ended in a scoreless tie.

Hofmeier finished with four saves on the day, while Nason made seven saves. The Panthers owned an 18-16 edge in shots in the contest.

Head Coach Brooke DeRosa and her Adelphi squad close out the regular season on Wednesday (Nov. 6) against reigning national champion University of Bridgeport at 6 p.m. in Bridgeport, Conn.
