No. 2 Men's Soccer Handed First Loss at No. 22 Franklin Pierce, 4-1

Rindge, N.H. - On Saturday night, the No. 2 Adelphi University men's soccer team lost its first game of 2019, in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of No. 22 Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference action at Sodexo Field.

Playing without four key starters, the Panthers (14-1-1, 9-1-1 NE10) dropped their first game since last year's national quarterfinal loss to West Chester University.

Franklin Pierce (11-3-1, 9-2 NE10) got out to the early lead just 8:57 into the contest, but Adelphi answered later in the half.

In the 23rd minute, the Panthers scored on their first shot of the contest, when Aidan Keenan chipped a perfect through ball from Ofek Pinto over the head of FPU senior goalie Jadel Poon-Lewis to even things up at 1-1.

Franklin Pierce overwhelmed Adelphi with shots in the first half, outshooting the Panthers 12-2, and eventually took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Adelphi earned a couple of early corner kicks, but could not find the equalizer. Franklin Pierce then got some key insurance in the 59th minute, on a goal by Isak Helgason, to extend its lead to 3-1.

The Ravens never looked back from there, as Yannik Felber tacked on a fourth goal for the Ravens in the 87th minute.

Head Coach Gary Book and the Panthers close out the regular season Wednesday (Nov. 6), when they host their Senior Night game against NE10 rival The College of Saint Rose at Motamed Field at 7:30 p.m. in Garden City, N.Y.
