Women's Basketball Pulls Out 70-62 Win at Dominican

Orangeburg, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team earned a hard-fought 70-62 win over Dominican College in non-conference action Wednesday night at the Hennessy Center in Orangeburg.

The Panthers (3-0) were led by Katie Murphy, who dropped a career-high 23 points. She also added six rebounds, four assists and three steals in the effort. Leonie Edringer (16 points, 11 rebounds) and Emma Cuccurullo (13 points, 12 rebounds) both posted a double-double. It was Edringer's third double-double in as many games and the first of Cuccurullo's collegiate career.

Jess Camarda poured in eight points, while Aneisha Lyons had seven points and three rebounds. Emily Miccile crashed the glass for five rebounds and scored three points.

In a tightly-contested game from start to finish, Adelphi nor Dominican (1-2) led by more than three points in the first half. The two teams traded six leads, as the Panthers went into the break with a slight 34-33 edge.

That play carried over into the third quarter, where the Brown and Gold built as much as a five-point advantage, but led only by one possession (50-48) heading into the final period of play.

Tied 62-62 in the final minutes of regulation, Adelphi closed out the final 1:05 on an 8-0 run to pull out the victory. Edringer gave the Panthers the lead for good with a basket, and teamed up with Murphy to go a perfect 6-of-6 at the foul line down the stretch.

Adelphi took full advantage of its second-chance opportunities in the contest, outscoring Dominican in that category, 22-10. Additionally, the Panthers committed just 12 turnovers to the Chargers' 20.

Head Coach Missy Traversi and her Adelphi squad are back in action Saturday (Nov. 16), when they host their 2019-20 home opener against Caldwell University at 7 p.m. at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City.
