Oceanside, N.Y. - On Wednesday, the Adelphi University women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win against Northeast-10 Conference foe American International College at the Point Set Indoor Tennis Facility in Oceanside.
Since the Panthers won third doubles by default, Adelphi (8-2, 8-1 NE10) needed just one of the other two matches to capture the team doubles point.
AU did more than that. The tandems of
Barbie Quagliardi and
Nicole Kielan and
Amanda Franstedt and
Nicole Stay both won by identical 6-1 scorelines at the respective No. 1 and No. 2 doubles flights.
In singles, Adelphi lost no more than three games in a single set, en route to sweeping all six matches.
Quagliardi earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at top singles. Kielan won 6-2, 6-0 in second singles. Franstedt triumphed 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 flight. Stay and
Lea Baschanow put up individual shutouts (6-0, 6-0) at fourth and fifth singles.
The Panthers wrap up their NE10 regular-season schedule Saturday (Oct. 12) against Saint Anselm College at the Adelphi Tennis Courts in Garden City. First serve is set for noon.
