Worcester, Mass. - The No. 4 Adelphi University men's soccer team opened a three-game road trip in dramatic fashion Wednesday, knocking off Northeast-10 Conference foe Assumption College by a 2-1 final in overtime at Multi-Sport Stadium.
Senior forward
Aidan Keenan netted the game-winner just 3:11 into overtime for the Panthers (9-0-1, 5-0-1 NE10). It was his fifth goal and second game-winner of the year.
From the right flank,
Paolo Marciano played a cross to the far post for
Taylor Kaczynski, who centered a pass for Keenan to finish into an open net.
Kaczynski also drew first blood for AU, scoring 6:13 into the match. With his goal and assist, Kaczynski has eight points (2 G, 4 A) in his last three contests.
Adelphi nearly won it from the onset of the overtime period, but Marciano and
Filippo Peri were both denied on opportunities by Assumption (6-4, 4-3 NE10) sophomore keeper Sebastian Jimenez in the opening seconds.
Eight different players registered a shot in the effort for the Panthers, who outshot the Greyhounds, 22-13. Adelphi also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
AU freshman netminder
Daniel De La Heras made four saves in the win. Jimenez stopped eight shots for Assumption.
Head Coach
Gary Book and the Panthers are back in action Saturday (Oct. 12) in an 11 a.m. meeting at NE10Â rival Stonehill College in Easton, Mass.
