Garden City, N.Y. - On Wednesday, the No. 7 Adelphi University field hockey team blanked Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce University, 3-0, in its annual breast cancer awareness game at Motamed Field.
The win for the Panthers was their seventh in a row. AU has outscored its opposition by an overwhelming 24-5 count during its current winning streak.
After a scoreless first quarter, Adelphi (9-2, 7-1 NE10) found the back of the net just 3:37 into the second period, when
Danielle Powers scored her second goal of the season. Less than five minutes later,
Elissa Frein extended the Panthers' lead to 2-0, off an assist from
Danielle Kempf.
The Adelphi defense stymied Franklin Pierce (4-7, 3-4 NE10) in the first half of play, limiting the Ravens to just two shots and two penalty corners. The Panthers would dominate the shot total in the contest, 23-7.
In the fourth quarter,
Katelyn Zaneski capped off the scoring for the night. Nearly four minutes into the period, Zaneski squeezed a shot past FPU junior goaltender Olivia Barnes at the near post, making it a 3-0 game.
AU graduate goaltender
Stephanie Peragallo made three saves in the cage, en route to remaining undefeated at 4-0. It was also her second career shutout.
Adelphi returns to action Saturday (Oct. 12), when it hosts No. 8 Assumption College in an NE10 clash at 3 p.m. at Motamed Field.Â
