Garden City, N.Y. - On Wednesday night, the Adelphi University women's soccer team closed out the home portion of its 2019 regular-season slate with a 3-0 loss to No. 12 The College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown at Motamed Field in Garden City.
The loss ended a six-game winning streak for the Panthers, who fell to 9-4-1 and 8-3-1 in NE10 play. The three goals allowed were the first let up by Adelphi at home this year.
The Panthers accounted for the first three shots of the game, but were outshot 8-3 for the remainder of the half. Two of those shots found the back of the net for the visitors.
Saint Rose (12-2-1, 8-2-1 NE10) converted on its first and last shot of the period to bring a 2-0 lead into the break. Just 4:58 into the match, Deanna Trongone found a wide-open Sanna Rein at the back post on a free kick. Rein then volleyed a shot into the lower-left corner of the net, staking the Golden Knights to an early 1-0 advantage.
In the 33rd minute, Nina Predanic ran onto a long pass from Morgan Burchhardt and slotted a shot past Adelphi sophomore keeper
Sarah Hofmeier, making it a 2-0 game.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Saint Rose tacked on another, when Caitlyn Dabagian flicked a shot over Hofmeier to cap off the scoring on the evening.
Prior to Dabagian's goal, the Panthers had an opportunity to cut the deficit to 2-1, but were unable to cash in on a cross to the front of the net by
Taylor Iacono.
