Women's Soccer Ties No. 18 Stonehill, 1-1

Easton, Mass. - In a pivotal Northeast-10 Conference game on Saturday, the Adelphi University women's soccer team drew even with No. 18 Stonehill College, 1-1, at Skyhawk Field in Easton.

The two teams played a scoreless first half, before the Panthers (9-3-1, 8-2-1 NE10) broke through for the game's first goal early on in the latter period.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Alexsis Weiser sent a shot from inside the 18-yard box that found the back of the net, giving Adelphi a 1-0 lead. It was her team-leading eighth goal of 2019, which is tied for fifth-most in the NE10.

While the Panthers turned up the pressure and looked for that key insurance tally, Stonehill's (10-3-2, 7-1-2 NE10) Kaitlin Brown made three key saves in a five-minute stretch to keep it a one-goal game.

The Skyhawks then leveled the score in the 67th minute. Stonehill's Kayla Henry played a through ball for Nicole Geraghty, who put a shot underneath the crossbar, as Adelphi goalkeeper Sarah Hofmeier came off her line to challenge the shot.

The game would need overtime to decide a winner. The Panthers outshot their opposition 5-2 in the two extra periods, but neither team was unable to convert, ultimately ending the game in a 1-1 tie.

Hofmeier finished with a game-high five saves in the match for Adelphi. Brown stopped four shots for Stonehill.

Overall, the Panthers held a 17-13 edge in shots, while the Skyhawks earned five corner kicks to Adelphi's four.

Head Coach Brooke DeRosa and the Panthers are back in action Wednesday (Oct. 30), when they host No. 11 The College of Saint Rose in another key NE10 tilt at Motamed Field at 6 p.m. in Garden City, N.Y.
