No. 2 Men's Soccer Strikes Early in 4-2 Win Over Bentley

Garden City, N.Y. - The No. 2 Adelphi University men's soccer team struck for four first-half goals Tuesday afternoon in a 4-2 win against Bentley University in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown at Motamed Field in Garden City.

Three of the Panthers' four goals came in a span of 11 minutes. Despite being outshot 7-6 at the half, Adelphi (12-0-1, 7-0-1 NE10) converted on four of its six attempts to bring a commanding 4-1 lead into the intermission.

The scoring started in the 13th minute, when Bentley goalkeeper Nick Maldarella fouled an oncoming Filippo Peri in the box to set the stage for a penalty kick. With already a penalty-kick goal in his pocket this season, Paolo Marciano found the mesh for his league-leading 11th goal of the season, staking the Panthers to a 1-0 lead.

It wasn't even five minutes later that Adelphi doubled its lead. Off a Stephen Megaloudis corner kick, Marciano sent a touch into the box that fell to the feet of George Yusuff, who tapped a shot underneath Maldarella to make it a 2-0 game.

The Panthers wouldn't be done there. In the 24th minute, Alessandro Corti played a long ball down the left flank for a streaking Taylor Kaczynski. Kaczynski then got around a defender, before beating the keeper inside the near post.

Adelphi eventually took a 4-1 lead into halftime, as Aidan Keenan scored in his return from injury. He capitalized on a giveaway in Bentley's own half in the 42nd minute, leading to a 1-on-1 opportunity that gave Keenan his sixth goal of 2019.

Speaking of comebacks, Matt Apicella made his return to the Panther net, after missing five games. His last start came on Sept. 28 against Southern New Hampshire University. Apicella made a game-high four saves to improve to 7-0 on the year.

Head Coach Gary Book and his Adelphi squad are back in action Saturday (Oct. 26), when they travel to Manchester, N.H. for an 11 a.m. tilt at NE10 foe Saint Anselm College.
