Syracuse, N.Y. - On Wednesday, the Adelphi University women's soccer team tallied three unanswered second-half goals, en route to a 4-2 victory against Le Moyne College in a Northeast-10 Conference match at Ted Grant Field in Syracuse.
The Panthers have now won for the third time in as many contests, improving to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in NE10 play in the process. Meanwhile, the Dolphins fell to 1-6-1 and 0-4-1 in league action.
Adelphi led 1-0 at the intermission, but let up the tying goal just 6:08 into the second half. Le Moyne converted on only its second shot of the match at that point.
The Panthers broke the tie though just five minutes after surrendering the game-tying goal. In the 57th minute, Le Moyne's Kayla Bain made contact with AU's
Kerianne Scorce in the 18-yard box, warranting a whistle from the center official and awarding the visitors a penalty kick.
Senior forward
Erica Bleimeyer then stepped to the spot and put a shot past diving Le Moyne senior goalkeeper Shannon Bennison for the go-ahead tally.
Adelphi would strike twice more to seal its third-consecutive victory. Junior forward
Alexsis Weiser, who got the scoring started in the opening half, finished on a breakaway in the 65th minute to make it a 3-1 game. Bleimeyer added her second goal of the contest in the 83rd minute, on a one-touch off a cross from Scorce.
The Panthers outshot the Dolphins in the contest by a 2-to-1 margin (16-7) and earned five corner kicks to the Dolphins' two. Sophomore goalkeeper
Krista Aliscio had two saves for Adelphi, while Bennison stopped four shots for Le Moyne.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and the Panthers will now come home to face University of New Haven on Saturday (Oct. 5) at 5 p.m. at Motamed Field in Garden City.
