Millersville, Pa. -
Ofek Pinto and
Filippo Peri netted goals just 4:46 apart in the first half Saturday to propel the No. 3 Adelphi University men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Millersville University in non-conference action at Pucillo Field in Millersville.
The match was the end of a three-game road trip for the Panthers, who improved to 11-0-1 overall. Meanwhile, the Marauders fell to 7-4-2 on the year.
While Millersville was held without a single shot on goal for the first 45 minutes, Adelphi converted for a pair of goals in a near five-minute span in the opening half.
In the 18th minute,
Taylor Kaczynski sent a cross to the far post for Pinto, who slid to tap the ball into the net with his right foot for the game's opening goal. It was Pinto's first goal of the season and the third of his career.
It was only 4:46 later that the Panthers struck again. This time, Peri fired a loose ball inside the six-yard box past Marauders' senior goalkeeper Darian McCauley, making it a 2-0 game.
Millersville would be limited to just one shot on target for the entirety of the contest. Adelphi doubled up its opposition in shots, 12-6, and owned a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks for the match.
Freshman goalkeeper
Daniel De La Heras collected his second shutout in as many games, after stopping the only shot he faced for the Panthers. McCauley finished with four saves for the Marauders.
