Women's Soccer's Winning Streak Ends in 2-0 Loss at AIC

Springfield, Mass. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday in a 2-0 loss to American International College in a Northeast-10 Conference match at Ronald J. Abdow Field in Springfield.

It is the Panthers' (7-3, 6-2 NE10) first loss since Sept. 18. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets bettered their record to 5-6-1 overall and 3-3-1 in NE10 play.

In a first half that saw AIC record only one shot on goal, the Yellow Jackets converted to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Jennifer Hackett settled a loose ball in the 27th minute and launched a 35-yard shot into the upper-right corner of the net for the game's first goal.

Both teams had their fair share of opportunities in the latter 45 minutes of play and AIC came away with an insurance tally in the 75th minute.

It was Jacinda McCarthy that touched a Nicole Gamberoni through ball past Adelphi sophomore keeper Krista Aliscio, making it a 2-0 game.

Despite coming up short, the Panthers owned a 12-10 edge in shots and a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. Aliscio finished with a season-high five saves.

Head Coach Brooke DeRosa and her Adelphi squad return to the pitch Saturday (Oct. 19), when they host Franklin Pierce University in an NE10 tilt under the lights of Motamed Field at 7 p.m.
