Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. -
Jackie Brown netted two goals for the No. 6 Adelphi University field hockey team Tuesday to lead the Panthers to their ninth-straight win; a 2-0 victory over Northeast-10 Conference opponent Mercy College at Mercy Field.
After a scoreless first half, Brown found the back of the cage in each of the final two quarters, accounting for both of Adelphi's (11-2, 9-1 NE10) goals on the day.
A yellow card was issued to Mercy's Christy Falisi in the 30th minute, which sent the Mavericks (3-7, 3-6 NE10) into the second half of play down a player.
The Panthers then capitalized on their first possession of the second half, after being awarded a penalty stroke. Brown came off the bench to convert into the top-left corner, giving Adelphi a 1-0 lead.
Then, in the fourth quarter,
Danielle Kempf fed Brown the ball in the center of the arc, before the Port Jefferson native struck again in the 49th minute to make it a 2-0 game.
Mercy, which was limited to only three shots on goal, could not find away to break through against Adelphi goalie and NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week
Stephanie Peragallo, who posted her third-consecutive shutout.
Head Coach
Mary Moore and her Adelphi squad are back in action Friday (Oct. 18) in Easton, Mass. at 2 p.m. against NE10 rival Stonehill College.
