Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Outlasts Saint Michael's in Double Overtime, 1-0

Garden City, N.Y. - It took 106 minutes, but Jessica Petry delivered the game-winning goal on a penalty kick to send the Adelphi University women's soccer team to a 1-0 double-overtime victory against Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference action Saturday at Motamed Field in Garden City.

In a match that saw the Panthers (7-2, 6-1 NE10) dominate from the opening whistle, Adelphi broke through for the game-winner at the 106:06 mark of the contest.

With time dwindling in the final overtime period, Kerianne Scorce dribbled past two defenders, before Saint Michael's sophomore centerback Brooke Caragher made contact with Scorce deep inside the 18-yard box, awarding Adelphi a penalty kick.

It was then Petry that stepped to the spot and finished her attempt into the lower-right corner of the net for the game-winner. It was Petry's first goal of the 2019 season (her first since 2017) and the first game-winning goal of her collegiate career.

Adelphi outshot Saint Michael's (3-7-1, 0-7-1) by an overwhelming 32-4 count in the match. That included a 14-1 advantage in shots on target.

Sophomore goalkeeper Krista Aliscio posted her fifth shutout of the season, as the Panthers stretched their streak of not allowing a goal at home to five games. She made one save in the effort. Her counterpart, Liz Vallatini, made 13 saves for the Purple Knights.

Head Coach Brooke DeRosa and her Adelphi squad will now ride their five-game winning streak into Springfield, Mass. on Tuesday (Oct. 15) against NE10 rival American International College at 4 p.m.
