McKeough Nets Two to Push No. 7 Field Hockey to Five Straight Wins

Pleasantville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University field hockey team extended its win streak to five Tuesday afternoon, as freshman forward Giana McKeough netted two goals to defeat Pace University, 3-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at Finnerty Field.

Adelphi (7-2, 5-1 NE10) continues to be a force in and out of the conference, moving up two spots in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll, released prior to the afternoon meeting, to No. 7.

Sophomore Kaylee Deleva started things off for the Panthers, scoring in the 11th minute of action in the opening quarter. Her third goal this season and second since Saturday, the forward is tied for second in the NE10 for assists.

Responding in the 19th minute, Jenna Piotrowski netted the Setters' (1-6, 1-5 NE10) eventual lone goal of the contest.

The score remained even well into the second half, until McKeough found the back of the cage, assisted by fellow rookie Morgan Minicozzi to break the tie.

McKeough did not stop there. In true Panther fashion this season, she netted another tally late in the game, this time with under three minutes to play. The freshman and NE10 Rookie of the Week completed her first multi-goal game of her collegiate career against Pace to lead the Panthers to a 3-1 victory.

Once again, Adelphi dominated its opponent with 27 shots, compared to the home team's two.

In the cage, Stephanie Peragallo logged her first save of the season for AU. She remains undefeated on the year, sporting a 2-0 record.

The Brown and Gold is back on the road later this week, this time taking on local rival Molloy College in NE10 play. Start time is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford.
