Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Big Third Quarter Powers Women's Hoops to 79-53 Win vs. Franklin Pierce

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team snapped a season-long losing skid in style on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers (9-10, 6-6 NE10) recorded their largest margin of victory this season in a 79-53 win over the Franklin Pierce University Ravens, ending a four-game slide which lasted the past two weeks.

The 26-point margin of victory for the Brown and Gold, beating its previous season-best of 15 in a 90-75 victory over Dominican College on Nov. 28, came thanks in part to four players in double figures, and two double-doubles from Leonie Edringer and Niajah Morgan.

The duo combined for 36 points and 24 rebounds, with both accounting for their fifth double-doubles of the season, as both Julia Strachan and Fallyn Stephens provided threats for the Panthers on the perimeter.
Strachan net 16 points with the aid of five three-pointers for her third double-figure outing in her past four games, while Stephens totaled 13.

Facing a 26-21 deficit with 4:33 to go in the second quarter, 15 unanswered points for the Panthers, which included 11 straight through to halftime, gave them a lead they'd never relinquish. The advantage stood for the home team between 8-10 points for much of the third, before an 11-0 in which Stephens and Strachan combined to knock down a trio of triples helped extend the lead to 21 at 58-37 with 2:41 to go in the third.

Adelphi's hot shooting lasted for the duration of the contest, as the Brown and Gold upped its efficiency from 41 percent in the first half to 50 percent in the second to pull off a 20-point edge over the second 20 minutes.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday night, as they travel to Southern New Hampshire University for a 5:30 p.m. NE10 contest. The game will air on cable television FOX College Sports, and those looking to watch can check their local listings here.

Adelphi is back home on Wednesday, Feb. 6 for its annual Think Pink Night, benefiting the Adelphi Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. The Panthers will take on the Le Moyne College Dolphins in NE10 action at 5:30 p.m. inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
