Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Miccile Drops Double-Double but Women's Hoops Falls at SNHU, 87-71

Manchester, N.H. - Despite the second double-double of the season, and first in nearly two months, from sophomore Emily Miccile, a slow start ultimately doomed the Adelphi University women's basketball team on the road on Tuesday night, as the Panthers fell to the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen at the Stan Spirou Fieldhouse, 87-71.

Adelphi (9-11, 6-7 NE10) never lead in the contest and offered just one tie - at 3-3 in the first quarter thanks to a Julia Strachan make from behind the arc - as the Brown and Gold shot just 25 percent from the floor over the first 20 minutes and trailed 48-27 at the break.

Conversely, the Penmen came out of the gates hot, and shot 47 percent from the floor and nearly 60 percent from deep as a unit in the first half, with six players connecting on at least one three-pointer and eight players scoring overall.

The Panthers authored a 10-point swing in the third quarter, outscoring the hosts 28-18 and putting one more point on the scoreboard over the third 10-minute period than they had in the first two combined, but ultimately managed to creep no closer than eight points for the rest of the game.

Miccile paced Adelphi (9-11, 6-7 NE10) with her first double-double since Dec. 5 with 18 points, one short of a season- and career-high, and a new lifetime-best of 11 rebounds.

She was joined in double figures by Niajah Morgan (16 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists), Leonie Edringer (13 points, 5 rebounds) and Katie Murphy (season-high 11 points, 6 rebounds), with Murphy going a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line.

Senior forward Kylie Lorenzen paced all scorers with 22 points in the win for SNHU (13-7, 7-6 NE10), and the Penmen received 24 points combined from guards Brianna Camara and Karlee Ziliak, who shot 10-for-19 from the floor as a duo.

Adelphi closes out cross-divisional play on Saturday afternoon, heading to Stonehill College for a 1:30 p.m. league tilt.
