Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Hoops Tallies Win Over Non-Conference Opponent Mercy, 76-59

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - Returning the court for the first time in the new year, Adelphi men's basketball started off in a positive way, taking a 76-59 decision from Mercy College Wednesday evening in non-league action.

Adelphi (7-6) held the Mavericks' leading scorer to his lowest output of the season at just six points, despite Bryan Griffin's average 17.4 points per contest heading into today's game. Ronnie Silva put up a game high 17 points with the help of five three-pointers as Oswald Parker III chipped in 14 points alongside eight boards.

Seven minutes passed before Mercy College (4-7) got on the board, trailing Adelphi's 8-3 lead. Denzel Jenoure landed his first bucket of the game to extend the visitor advantage to double-digits, which the Brown and Gold maintained throughout the rest of the first half. Austin Beech knocked down a free throw at with 1:15 remaining, pushing the Mavericks to their largest deficit (22), as the opening frame closed out with Adelphi on top, 38-18.

The home team earned a win two times this year after trailing at the half, but that was not the case in the midweek matchup as the Panthers never relinquished their lead en route to a 76-59 win. Eight different players for the visiting team scored in the second, combining for 65 percent shooting from the field.

All players in Maverick uniforms were held to six points or less in the last half, excluding Amir Atkins who registered eight for the home team. Even with 29 points from the bench for the hosts the visiting Panthers capitalized on a 14-4 run to close out their first game of 2019 on top.

The men's team will play on their home court for the first time in 2019 when they host New York Institute of Technology on Saturday, January 5 at 2:00 p.m. Prior to opening tip, Adelphi men's basketball alumni are invited back to campus to suit up and face off against each other starting at 11:00 a.m. on the main court.
