Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Hoops Uses Advantage in Rebounding to Outpace NYIT, 90-48

Garden City, N.Y. - Nearly doubling the amount of rebounds of their opponent, the Adelphi University men's basketball team picked up a 90-48 victory over New York Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon, inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.

NYIT's total team output marked the fewest points scored in a game by the Bears (1-12) since also losing at Adelphi (8-6) on Jan. 30, 2008, that time by a 63-31 score.

The Panthers saw four players reached double-digits, including two double-figure efforts off the bench from Terrence Rountree, Jr. and Denzel Jenoure. For NYIT, Zahir Porter and Kieran Hamilton led with 12 points apiece.

At the start, the contest seemed evenly matched and NYIT even held a brief lead at 14-13 with 12:12 left on the clock, courtesy of a three-pointer from Collins Onyeike.
From there Adelphi managed to pull away a regain the advantage, using a 16-0 spurt to close out the half. The Bears produced only three field goals the remainder of the half and trailed 44-21 at the break.

It took three minutes for the visitors to make a basket in the second half as Adelphi extended their lead with 10 points right out of the gate. Contributions from Dejavaughn Utley, Jenoure, Rountree helped keep the Bears quiet for over four minutes as the home team put up 15 unanswered baskets.

Jenoure collected 10 of his 11 points in the second half alone, with 8-of-10 shooting from the charity stripe. Despite being on a roll, the hosts never led by more than 49, a mark they reached on two occasions; once with back-to-back free throws from Ronnie Silva and the other with the help of Dwaine Williams at the free throw line.

Forty-four points came from Adelphi's bench in the victory, notably with first career buckets from Matthew Streeter, who posted just his second appearance this season.

Next on the docket for the Panthers is a road trip to Assumption College on Wednesday, January 9 as the set game of a double feature, starting at approximately 7:30 p.m.
