Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Stopped by Merrimack, 78-65

Garden City, N.Y. – Coming off a strong performance against no. 9 Saint Anselm College, the Adelphi University men's basketball team welcomed Merrimack College to the Center for Recreation and Sport Tuesday evening for a quick turnaround in league play.

The Warriors (11-6, 6-4 NE10) used a 44-28 advantage at halftime en route to a 78-65 decision over the Panthers, who fall to 10-7 overall and 4-5 in conference action.
Adelphi experienced trouble defending the hot outside shooting from Merrimack, who was 15-27 from three-point land in the contest. The home team only saw nine shots from beyond the arc fall, despite over 25 attempts.

The early going was relatively even, until the Warriors knocked down three straight three-pointers to ultimately take a lead they never relinquished. Jack Laffey and Austin Beech contributed to cut the host deficit to two, but Adelphi committed nine turnovers, of which Merrimack capitalized on for 15 points.

Merrimack closed out the frame with a 10-2 run that put the Panthers behind by 16 heading into the break. The visiting Warriors did not make an appearance at the free throw line until the second half, as the Panthers went just over 23 minutes without the referees calling a foul on the hosts.

The Brown and Gold trailed by at-most 16 points on several occasions in the second half, but still managed to cut the visitor lead to single digits in an effort to keep the game within reach. It was the 10 points courtesy of Juvaris Hayes in the second half however which kept the hosts at bay, in addition to a combined 7-7 shooting from the charity stripe and 50 percent from the field.

Ronnie Silva led the Panthers with a new career-high 20 points, as Oswald Parker III polished off his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The team picks up and hits the road for their next contest, as they travel to Saint Michael's College on Saturday, January 19 for a 3:30 p.m. tip-off.
