Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Rallies for 2OT Win at Merrimack, 3-2

North Andover, Mass. - With her team trailing late in the second half, sophomore Madison Raposo took the Adelphi University women's soccer team's Northeast-10 Conference opener into her own hands.

The sophomore midfielder out of Wethersfield, Conn. scored twice, once late in the second half and again at the end of the second overtime period, to lead Adelphi (2-0, 1-0 NE10) to a dramatic win in its league opener on the road, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.

Having not scored in the nine games she appeared in last year as a freshman, the game-tying and game-winning tallies are the first of Raposo's collegiate career.

Adelphi surrendered two goals in the opening 45 minutes and trailed 2-0 at halftime, but Kerianne Scorce got the Brown and Gold on the board in the 68th minute of the second half with her first goal of the season to halve the deficit before Raposo's heroics.

Rookie keeper Sarah Hofmeier kept Adelphi in the game after allowing two early goals, as she made seven of her nine saves across the entirety of the second half and overtime. The freshman needed to be on form for almost all 110 minutes, as the Warriors (2-1, 0-1 NE10) held a 23-18 advantage in shots overall, and a 7-3 edge in overtime.

The Panthers are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 12th as they welcome the Pace University Setters to Motamed Field in NE10 action. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and will mark the team's new home opener, after Tuesday's contest against non-league foe Mercy College was postponed due to lightning.
