Volleyball Ousts Molloy College in Non-Conference Matchup

Garden City, N.Y. - Stretching past 25 in all sets, the Adelphi University volleyball team scored a 3-0 win over the defending East Coast Conference Champions, Molloy College Wednesday evening in non-conference action. 

The Panthers (4-2) outblocked the Lions (4-2) 10 to six en route to the three-set sweep. The hosts were led by Sarah Bisbe and McKenna Clawson who accounted for 16 and 10 kills, respectively, as the former collected 12 digs and four service aces. Cara McKenzie, who also notched double figure kills put forth a phenomenal effort at the net with three solo blocks and three block assists. To open the first set, the teams traded points until a kill from Katie Barry sparked a four-point run, however Molloy was quick to respond with three unanswered to make the contest even once more. When the Lions regained the lead later in the set, Head Coach Danielle MacKnight called a timeout as her team earned the sideout upon returning to the court. The Brown and Gold scored four of the final five point to take a 1-0 lead in the contest. 

Set two played out much like the first, even ending in identical scores with plenty of back-and-forth action. The home team held their opponents to just nine kills in the second, scoring 11 of their own and holding a five to two advantage in blocks at the net. Adelphi also used three service aces, two of which came from Bisbe late in the set to capture the win and take a 2-0 lead. 

In the third and ultimately final set, the Panthers fought from an 8-4 deficit using a five-point streak started by a solo block from Sophia Powless.  Molloy managed to work back to a lead, but the Brown and Gold responded with another five-point run to stand two points ahead. Unable to string together multiple points down the stretch, the Lions fell, 28-26 in the finale, as Clawson and McKenzie collected the final two kills of the evening. 

Up next on the docket, Adelphi will take on four new opponents at the Marauder Clash hosted by Millersville University this Friday and Saturday. Due to scheduling conflicts, there will be no live stats or video feed for the games.
