Volleyball at Marauder Clash - Weekend Wrapup

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Millersville, Pa. - After drawing a forfeit in the opening match, Adelphi volleyball won two straight contests before dropping the finale at the Marauder Clash hosted by Millersville University this past weekend. 

A scheduling conflict led to a forfeit from Shepherd University for the Panthers in their opener, securing an instant victory on paper. The team concluded day one with a 3-0 sweep of Dominican College and started Saturday off in the same fashion, taking down Lock Haven University. The final match of the weekend was a four-set competitive game featuring West Chester University, in which Adelphi fell short, 1-3. 

Adelphi vs. Dominican (25-20, 25-10, 25-13)
  • Leading the team in kills was Madison Canestrari with eight, who notched four block assists and two solo blocks in the win.
  • Grace Wegmann and Courtney Crook split time setting, accounting for 12 and 11 assists, respectively. 
  • The Panthers held a 10-1 advantage in blocks, as the Chargers posted a negative team hitting percentage across all three sets. Adelphi's second set was offensively strong, as the team posted a .398 collective hitting percentage with nine kills.
  • Katarina Warburton was the lone defender in double-figure digs, at 12.
Adelphi vs. Lock Haven (25-17, 25-19, 25-17)
  • Sara Bisbe was responsible for a team-high 12 kills and two service aces to accompany her .250 hitting percentage in the three-set sweep. 
  • Katie Barry stepped into the setter role for the first game of day two, posting 30 assists to go along with five digs and four kills. 
  • Adelphi outblocked the Bald Eagles 10-0 and held them to single digit kills in two of the three sets. The only category in team comparison that Lock Haven held an advantage was digs, 51-48.
Adelphi vs. West Chester (25-21, 17-25, 21-25, 19-25)
  • West Chester picked up their 10th straight victory in 2018, despite dropping the first set 25-21 to the Panthers. 
  • The Golden Rams finished the match with 55 kills (and 11 errors) on 152 total attacks to wrap up the contest with a .289 hitting percentage compared to Adelphi's 46 kills (and 33 errors) on 174 attempts for a .074 hitting percentage.
  • Bisbe again led the Brown and Gold with 14 kills, notching a double-double with 15 digs. Three other defenders reached double-digit digs, in Katarina Warburton (32), McKenna Clawson (11), and Katie Barry (10). 
  • The teams were relatively even in comparison, with a holding a minimal advantage in both blocks and service aces. 
The team returns to Garden City, N.Y. to host cross-county rival LIU Post in non-conference action on Thursday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m.
