Manchester, NH - The Adelphi University men's soccer team used four first half goals en route to a 4-2 upset of no. 6 Southern New Hampshire State University Saturday evening.
Patrick Guier was the first to strike for the Panthers (6-2-1, 5-1-0 NE10) just under five minutes into action. He was able to weave through defenders after receiving a pass via
Mads Michaelsen from the midfield to get Adelphi on the board.Â
The Brown and Gold scored two more times before the home team responded, with all goals coming in the first half.
James Thristino netted his 11th of the season and
Paolo Marciano notched his second to extend the visitor lead to three.
The Penmen (9-1-0, 5-1-0) broke the silence in the 23rd minute, when Alex Satrustegui grabbed a rebound and buried the ball in the left side of the net. Nearly six minutes expired until either team scored again- this time a scramble in front of the net which resulted in
Taylor Kaczynski finding a way through traffic to the lower left corner to make it 4-1 Panthers.Â
Southern New Hampshire's Satrustegui tallied one more goal before the first half expired, but the hosts still trailed by two as the teams broke for the locker room.Â
Despite taking 11 shots in the second half, the Penmen were stopped seven times by Adelphi keeper
Matt Apicella, who posted a new career-high of 12 saves. Neither team scored for a full 45 minutes, resulting in SNHU's first loss of the season.Â
Head Coach
Gary Book and his squad will trip across town next Wednesday, October 3 for a non-conference matchup with the Lions of Molloy College. The contest is set for 7:00 p.m. at John A. Darcy Field located at the RVC Sports Complex.Â
