Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Rookie
Paolo Marciano tallied his first multi-goal game in an Adelphi uniform to lead the men's soccer team past Molloy College on Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Rockville Centre Athletic Complex, 2-1.
Marciano scored once in each half to anchor the Panthers (7-2-1) to the non-league victory, tallying goals in the 17th and 72nd minutes.
The freshman from Capaccio, Italy took three of Adelphi's first four shots of the game, and found the back of the net with his second, off an assist from
James Thristino after shooting from seven yards out.
The Lions (2-9) did not take a shot in the opening 45 minutes, but did end the contest with nine overall and forced
Matt Apicella to make three second-half saves.
Two of the junior's saves came in the 63rd and 67th minutes with the game at 1-0, and Marciano doubled up the visitors' lead shortly after.
Thristino also assisted on this goal, taking a touch from Taylor Kazczynski to Marciano inside the box for the late insurance.
The Panthers out-shot the Lions in the game, 16-9, and doubled up in shots on goal 8-4. Molloy keeper Raul Bonilla made six saves in defeat.
The men's soccer team returns home, and to Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 6, welcoming Assumption College to Motamed Field for a 4 p.m. contest.
