Men's Soccer Grounds Bentley in NE10 Action, 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's soccer team scored its second consecutive shutout in league action on home field on Tuesday night, surviving torrential rain over the course of 90 minutes for a 3-0 victory over the visiting Bentley University Falcons.

James Thristino scored for the fourth straight contest to lead the Adelphi (5-2-1, 4-1 NE10) effort, as he notched a pair of goals for the second time in the span of a week. His two tallies sandwiched Patrick Guier's second score of the season, as Taylor Kaczynski notched two assists on each of the Panthers' first two goals.

In a rematch of last season's Northeast-10 Championship quarterfinal game which saw eighth-seeded Bentley score a stunning 2-1 upset of the top-seeded Panthers on Motamed Field, no such deficit was faced tonight.

Thristino's first goal of the game came in the third minute, as he and Kaczynski joined forces for the first time on the evening to put the Brown and Gold in front. The lead doubled nearly 25 minutes later, as Kaczynski again found a free player on the wing, this time in Guier, who finished from the far side into the near post.

The 2-0 margin stood at the half, as Adelphi and Bentley were even in shot attempts - each with six - but it was the home team which proved more efficient with its shots on goal. The lone score in the second half also came off Thristino's foot, as the senior forward was taken down in the box and converted the Panthers' first penalty kick opportunity of the season for a 3-0 lead.

Matt Apicella scored his second straight shutout in goal for the Panthers, tallying a season-best six saves for the fourth time this season. Apicella made four of his saves in the second half, including three in the final 10 minutes to help preserve his clean sheet.

The Brown and Gold are back in action on Saturday afternoon, as they travel to Southern New Hampshire University for a 4 p.m. matinee in Manchester, N.H. The undefeated Penmen ranked sixth in the latest edition of the United Soccer Coaches' Division II national poll, released earlier on Tuesday.
