Rindge, N.H. - The first multi-goal game of Danielle Kempf's season led the Adelphi University field hockey team to a 2-0 victory in its Northeast-10 Conference opener on the road on Sunday over Franklin
Pierce University.
The sophomore, who has now scored in back-to-back victories for the Panthers (2-3, 1-0 NE10), last scored more than one in a game in a 10-0 victory over the University of New Haven on Oct. 4, 2017.
Kempf put Adelphi on the board in the 17th minute of the first half after finishing a pass from Kate Manson for a 1-0 edge over the Ravens. After the first 35 minutes, the Brown and Gold held the advantage in shots, 6-1, but Olivia Barnes made a pair of saves to keep the visitors off the board further.
With just six and a half minutes left in the contest, Kempf and Manson repeated their previous play to put the Panthers up 2-0.
Manson moved into the circle on the left side to make her way to the end line before she centered a pass off to her forward. The sophomore made a move to the front of the right post, and shot back against her momentum and inside the left post for the score.
Adelphi was able to hold off the home team for the remainder of the contest, and finished with 10 shots compared to Franklin Pierce's seven.
Leah Savage earned her second win of the season and made four second-half saves.
The Brown and Gold continues its road swing at New Haven on Wednesday, Sept. 26. The conference contest is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in West Haven, Conn.
