Garden City, N.Y. -
James Thristino's fourth goal of the season in the 73rd minute of a scoreless tie got the Adelphi University men's soccer team back on the winning track, leading the Panthers to a 1-0 victory over the visiting Hawks of Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon.
The goal broke the ice in a game the Panthers (4-2-1, 3-1 NE10) dominated offensively, holding a 25-4 edge in shots over the course of 90 minutes of action.
The Panthers were held off the board for much of the game thanks to nine saves by Saint Anselm (0-6, 0-4 NE10) keeper Jacob Rostkowski, but ultimately his effort wasn't enough in the face of relentless pressure from Adelphi.Â
On the game-winner,
Patrick Guier won the ball near midfield and chipped it up towards a streaking Thristino on the right wing, and the senior forward shot the ball across the box into the lower left corner of the goal to put the Panthers ahead.
Matt Apicella preserved his second shutout of the season with a scoreless 90 minutes, which included two saves in the second half.Â
The Brown and Gold have a quick turnaround to return to competition, welcoming Bentley University to Motamed Field on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. NE10 contest.
